WI-BELOIT - DAWG - POSTED

When I checked in to the Rodeway Inn next door a few days earlier, the person ahead of me commented that they grew up in the Beloit area and when they came back to town and got together with old friends, there was never a discussion on WHERE to meet, only the when. The where was always the Road Dawg.
That stay I also had breakfast here. Now a few days later I am back for lunch. I'm on a ½ hour break so I go for the soup and salad bar.
FIVE kinds of soup … salad bar was good also. But if you go to a buffet because you don't like to interact with people, this is the wrong place … they were checking back on me frequently, which is unusual once you order the buffet.
I'll be back any chance I get.

MO-STL - SUPER 8 - POSTED

It was late and I had to be off the road and the Super 8 was the first place I came to. Price was OK, so I stayed.
There is nowhere to park a big rig, but there is limited oversized parking in back (you might want to check before heading back there)
The room was OK, nothing bad, nothing great. Breakfast was the basics. I was running late enough in the AM to actually eat breakfast before leaving (rare for me). I had cold cereal and a cup of yogurt.
They must not expect much of a breakfast crowd, three tables so close together that I had to squeeze in, and that was without anyone sitting behind me.

TX-BIG CABIN - Cherokee Restaurant - POSTED

Another buffet for me, fastest 'non-fast food' I can get on the road. The spread was nothing special, two kinds of soup, a few sides and the salad area … and a few deserts.
Not much service required with a buffet, my order was taken, (I did have to ask for more plates each time), the plates were cleared and I got my check.
As another person mentioned, they do have a door between the smoking and the non-smoking. I was sitting right next to the door and didn't notice any smoke so the venting must be ok.

TX-HILLSBURO - ECONO LODGE - POSTED

Out of hours and needing a room.
No issues with check in/check out.
There is food right across the street, but it closes at 10PM (I was there later). I ended up at Schlotzsky's a ½ mile away, there is also a Café just across the freeway.
Truck parking is where you can find it.
Their website lists a pretty good breakfast … I forgot to checkout so I didn't see it.

TX-HILLSBURO - SCHLOTZSKY'S - POSTED

I was looking for a 'sit down' place close to my motel. Saw this SCHLOTZSKY'S and swung in instead.
It was just a few minutes before closing time so everyone was cleaning, but as soon as I walked in I was greeted and they were ready to take my order before I was ready to order. (lots of times I see cleaning taking priority over customer service at the end of a shift, but not here, not tonight.)
Great food, but a hard to find chain while traveling.

10/4/13 OK - PAULS VALLEY - HAPPY DAZE - POSTED

… the only down side was having to ask for and wait for my check.
I like the check on my table before I am half done eating, but I suppose not everyone does.
Was seated and waited on right away. Food came fairly quickly, it was delivered by the owner/manager as my waiter was busy with someone else. ???? WHAT DID I HAVE ???

OK-BLACKWELL - BESTWAY INN - POSTED

Sometime in my past I have stayed here before, I don't remember the motel but remember eating next door.
Today I was looking for something a little nicer so I stopped at the EconoLodge … Full … and it would have been $90. Ouch so I didn't even try the Super 8 or BW. A coupon got me in here for under $50.
SO … if you look at this as a place that is <> half the price of an EconoLodge, it's not a bad place. Everything worked, everything was clean … but it is old. Not a problem for me. Next time I'll save myself a few minutes and come here first.
The pictures show it is not worn or falling apart.

MO - STROUDS

MO - MA & PA KELLY Closed - re-opening soon as .. ??

MO-CAMERON - Nelle's Restaurant - POSTED

It had a 5 until …
… I was walking out the door and decided to use the bathroom before hitting the road again.
I seated myself, I was waited on right away, when they came back with my water I was ready to order … today's choice was a bowl of soup. Before I had time to dial my cell phone, my soup was on my table and the bill was there shorty after (just the way I like it.)
Soup was good … and lots of crackers, didn't have to ask for more.
There was a cashier at the register so no waiting to get someone's attention. Everything I need to get in and out in a 30 minute break.
… then I went to the men's room … it was bad. I am in 2-3-4+ truckstop and shop restrooms a day and haven't seen one this bad in months. And this was for the restaurant and store … you have to go outside to get to the truckstop part of the building. (It was the kind of 'un-clean' that adds up over time, it was not just a one-day oversight.)
After I thought about it, it made me wonder how clean the rest of the place is … I'll stop in again but I'll check the rest-room first.
BTW - I only ended up here because Stroud's in KS doesn't open until 2PM and Ma & Pa Kettle's is now closed.
