KY-PADUCAH - THRIFTY INN

WOW

1st - do not confuse a 'Thrifty Inn' by Drury with any other motel with the name Thrifty.
I have never stayed at any of the motels owned by Drury, there always seemed to be something cheaper in the area. Today there was too, but food was the other priority and this location is close to all kinds of food.
From parking, to checking in, to how clean the room was, it all rated a five. In comparing this to 'my rating system,' the room was like a high end Days Inn/Super 8. This location does have a pool, but not much for extras in the room. Breakfast was very basic (but not an issue for me as I don't eat breakfast.)
The big hint here is get all the coupon books, not just your favorite one. In Aug 2013, they have a coupon for $39 which makes it the same price as the Motel 6 a few blocks away. (cheaper motels can be found by the truckstop at another exit)
Lots of food within walking distance, I choose the Texas Roadhouse less than a block away.
This location has the Drury, the Pear Tree and Thrifty motels all next to each other so you can park anywhere including on the street so big rig parking / RV parking should not be an issue.

KY-PADUCAH - TEXAS ROADHOUSE

… as always.
Great food.
The only downside tonight was I did have to wait a noticeable amount of time to get my water and order, but I didn't time it so maybe I was just in a rush.
For under $10 I was able to get an order of ribs and mashed potatoes … and more buns than I could eat. (The ribs were from the 'appetizer' section, but that was all I could eat.)
I usually like to drown my potatoes in butter, but these did not come with any … but that was not an issue, they were good,as is.
And the ribs? Yum.

8/8/13 - NOT POSTED - NEED LOCATION

Waffle house

Greeted as I walked in the door, service was quick, food was good. Mid-afternoon on a weekday and the place had a few customers.
I had eggs, bacon and hash browns (with fried onions). Cooked to order, in and out in a half hour. (Per the new DOT regulations)
But no big rig parking …

FL-LAKE CITY - DAYS INN

Been here before.
Don't remember it as anything special and it wasn't this time either. But no issues so I'll keep coming back.
Separate big rig parking and a Huddle House next door with more big rig parking.
No issues at check in. Room was clean, quiet and temp controlled … I am easy to please.

FL-LAKE CITY - HUDDLE HOUSE

Been here before
And been to Huddle House's elsewhere and never an issue. Just a basic menu, quick service and cheap.
Tonight's meal was a Philly on Texas Toast. It was good.
I sub'ed a salad for the fries. But they would not let me add any extra's to the salad even though I asked them to leave some items off. Their individual packaged dressing is name brand and good, but not enough for a salad that size. Thinking about it now, that was a big 'dinner salad' so maybe it was not too little dressing, but too much salad.

8/9/13

FL-FLANDERS BEACH - LION

Here just by luck … and learned something new.
Today I was enroute to make a delivery and was an hour ahead of schedule when I decided to exit the Interstate and take the coastal highway. I had thought I would just sit on the beach but wasn't really dressed for that so I kept an open eye for a 'café.' Wasn't thinking quick enough when I passed the 1st one and then I saw this one …
I am from the 'northern plains' and just wanted to enjoy the heat (weather). I had no way of knowing this place is one of the top 10 'beachside bars in Florida.'
"Rooftop or inside?" Not being dressed for an hour of sun, I choose 'inside' which is actually open on all sides unless the weather is bad. And my table had a direct sight line to the Atlantic when the cars weren't parked in the way (see photo's)
I shouldn't have ordered so much food … I was just killing time, but I ordered both their French Onion soup and a Philly sandwich (comes with fries and a pickle). It was mid afternoon and I was planning on a big meal tonight.
Great onion soup, but knew I had to save room for at least part of my sandwich so I only ate about half and I'm glad I stopped there.
The Philly was on the usual type of bun for a Philly with sliced/chopped meat and large rings of onion. And today I learned that mixing a spoonful of French onion soup between bites of a Philly is really, really good.
Service was good, lower level kept pretty full for a mid-day week day.
This is the kind of place that is worth going 'out of route' for.

FL-KISSIMMEE - STAR MOTEL <<<< WAITING FOR NAME CHANGE

Very hard to rate.

After looking for other motels and stopping at a couple of them we ended up here because my co-worker had stayed here before … turns out it was (10?) years ago.
Check-in was great.
Room was … hard to rate … see pictures.
Housekeep was great, bed was large with seeming new sheets that looked and felt 'frozen fresh.' The new(er), table and TV stand looked 1st class, new style lamps on the table with plug ins on them. Shower walls looked new.
BUT the carpeting was stained and very old, the doors and sink stand were chipped, window shades were loose, towels were course.
The front desk said they had a 'store' but I did not check it out, they also had a pool. It looked like it had been a while since the outdoor areas had had an annual cleaning.
… my basics are clean, quiet and temp controlled and this fits that bill.

FL-KISSIMMEE - Ichiban Buffet

Nine food islands plus a stir-fry area is way more food than I need. Crab-legs are an extra charge. My big complaint about most buffets including this one is how poorly the food is marked. I have food allergies and only about a 1/3 of the food is marked. A 2nd complaint is how poorly the help understands English. The person I was with wanted a drink without 'caffeine,' they finally gave up and ordered a product they knew.
Everything I did have was good. I did not have the stir-fry, nor the ice cream. Just three rounds of chicken and beef. I looked at the salad area but it was just lettuce, dressings and maybe a half dozen topping type items.
The person I was with had eaten here before is how we ended up here. We were here on a Friday night and had about a five minute wait, by the time we left the wait looked a little longer.
